Language Arts: This month we are going to be leaning about double letters, specifically when two of the same letters are together making just one sound. We are also going to be learning the long vowel o sound, spelled with “ow” and “oa”.

Math: We have started fast math and the students are very excited about it. They work very hard to get as many problems correct as they can in two minutes. By March, we will be doing fast math every day. They will get faster and faster at addition as a result. We are also going to be focusing more on telling time this month as well as doing activities involving place value.

Science: This month we are going to be learning about the solar system and what is in “outer space”. The class will be studying the planets and learning about each one. They will also be learning what is in our sky and what is much further away.

Social Studies: This month is one of my favorites. We are going to be studying community helpers. We will be learning about what a community helper is, as well as learning about what they do. The students will be discussing the types of jobs that they would like to have when they grow up. Their answers are always very interesting.
