WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!

I am very excited to start another school year.  I am looking forward to all of the learning and adventures we will have together.  Please don’t ever hesitate to talk to me anytime about any questions regarding your child or the school program.

On the first day of school you will be getting a packet of important information regarding the kindergarten curriculum and what is expected of your child throughout the year.  This includes the list of needed school supplies.

I look forward to getting to know each student, as well as their family.

Language Arts-  We will be starting off the year with a lot of review.  We will be taking a few weeks to learn the letters and the letter sounds, or reviewing them if your student already knows them.  These first few weeks are very important for setting the foundation for reading and writing.

Math We will be starting off the year with basic math skills, such as number recognition and counting. The curriculum will gradually introduce other skills, incorporating them into the regular lessons.

Science/Social Studies-  In August our main focus is on learning the rules and routines for the classroom.  We will be discussing the rules and learning the way the classroom will be conducted throughout the school year.  It’s often hard transitioning from the loose summer schedule to a more structured school day.  So this first month we will be focusing on that transition.

We will also be learning about ourselves this month.  We are going to talk about what makes each person different, unique, and special.  The kids will be creating self portraits and doing activities to learn about themselves.
