Language Arts:  This month we are learning the “sh”, “ch”, “ar”, “qu” and “wh” sounds.  When we start putting letters together to make new sounds the tests get harder.  Please help your child practice at home.  Each week remind them that sometimes when you put two letters together it makes a new sound.

Math:  We are continuing to work on addition, number recognition, and counting by 2s.  We are almost finished with our first math workbook.  When it goes home you can look at everything that your student has been doing so far this year.  We will be starting our second math workbook this month.  The students are excited to see what they are going to be learning next.

Science:  This month we are learning about machines and magnets.  We are also doing a lesson on animals.  This is a two week lesson in which the kids will be learning about the different types of animals, as well as where they live.  They will be learning about animals at home, at the zoo, on a farm, and in the wild.

Social Studies:  We are going to be learning the history of the groundhog and what it means if he sees his shadow.  We are also going to be learning about valentines day and how to show kindness to others through giving.
