Themes:

This month is all about getting to know each other.  We are going to be learning about our classmates and our teachers.  We will be working on learning how to be friends and get along with each other.  We are going to be learning the rules of the classroom.  We are also going to start our lesson on the human body at the end of the month.  The class will learn about body parts and how they work.  They will also be learning about hygiene and how to take care of their body by washing their hands, bathing, and eating healthy.

Language Arts:

We are going to be starting our letter review this month.  We are going to be spending about 6 weeks reviewing all the letters and sounds.  The goal is that by the end of the 6 weeks the students will know at least 90% of the letters and sounds and are prepared for spelling tests.  We are going to be focusing on one or two letters a day.  The students will be learning to recognize each letter and write it.

Math:

We are going to start of the year with learning about the calendar.  We will be learning about the days of the week and the months of the year.  We are also going to start the year learning about money.  We will learn about patterns too.  The kids will start with two part patterns and move on to three part patterns.  We will start using our math journals by the end of the month.  In our math journals we are learning about different math concepts each day and reviewing what we already learned.
