Language Arts:  We have our first spelling tests this month.  Please help your child study at home.  The success rate is much higher for children who get support at home.  The students will also be getting homework on a regular basis.  They won’t have homework EVERY week, but always check folders on Friday for the homework packet.  It will be due the following Friday, but can be returned as soon as it’s finished.  The homework focuses on sight words.  The more sight words a child can quickly read, the faster and more efficient they will read.  We have finished all of our review, so from now on we will be learning how to put the sounds together to read.

Math:  We are enjoying our math curriculum.  The class especially likes playing the math games.  They are excellent ways of practicing basic math skills without even realizing they are learning and getting quicker at their skills.  We will continue with learning addition and subtraction, as well as other number skills.

Science/Social Studies:  We are going to be wrapping up our nutrition lessons the first part of October.  Then we will be learning about community helpers.  If any parents would like to come speak to the class about their job, it would be very welcome during the week of October 5th or October 12th.  After community helpers, we are spending a week talking about the different types of communication and transportation before we focus on Halloween the last week of October.  The class will be creating lots of spooky crafts.
