This month for math we are learning practicing counting by 10s, 5s, and 1s to 100. We are also working on reading two digit numbers from left to right. Some students struggle with reading two digit numbers because they read it from right to left instead of left to right. We will continue doing two worksheets a week as well as playing multiple games to strengthen their number skills.
If you have some free time, play a game with your child called TOP IT. This is a two player game. Start with a stack of cards, shuffled and upside down in the middle. Each person turns over a card. The player with the higher card takes both turned over cards. You continue turning over the cards until the entire deck has been turned over. The players each count their cards. The person with the most cards wins. This game helps the student learn to quickly identify which number is more/less. This also helps with number identification for students who are still struggling with knowing their numbers quickly and easily.
For the month of November we are going to be learning all about animals. We will be learning the different types of animals (mammals, reptiles, etc.). We are also going to be discussing animal habitats and what animals need to survive. We will be learning about the life cycle of the frog and how it changes from egg to tadpole to frog. This is a fun month the the students typically enjoy. Learning about animals is fun!
