September News

UPCOMING DATES:

~ September 2: NO SCHOOL (Labor Day)
~ September 25: Picture Day (ALL classes)

Important Reminders:

  • Breakfast count ends at exactly 7:15 am.
  • Lunch count ends at exactly 8:30 am.
  • Key cards must be used to enter the building.
  • Students must be signed in and out daily on their classroom forms.

SUNSCREEN: Please remember to send your child to school with an application of sunscreen on. We will reapply it after naptime. Thank you!

IMPORTANT:
We have a keyless entry system in place to provide a layer of protection for all students and staff. We ask that ALL parents or family members that pick up or drop off children have a key card available to use in order to reduce the number of times that a staff member has to open the door for people. There are multiple reasons for this:

1) Teachers cannot leave their students unattended even for a minute to run and open the door. This interrupts class time when they have to line up their students and go to the door to open it.

2) It becomes almost second nature to open the door to anyone that is knocking because we have to do it so frequently every day and never know anymore if it’s someone picking up or dropping off. The level of caution is greatly reduced because of the frequency of knockers.  If we know that all parents/family members have key cards and there is no reason for people to knock on the door, then we are more cautious and aware that those knocking are visitors.

3) Other parents are so used to people not having key cards that they are just allowing others to walk in with them without knowing if they are or are not to be in the school.

4) It defeats the purpose of the system.

From this point forward, any family that knocks frequently, will be provided a card and have the $10 fee charged to their account. The money will be due with the next tuition payment.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The students will be learning how to tell the difference between insects and spiders. The class will also be learning how to appreciate all living creatures, not just the cute and cuddly ones. Bugs serve an important role in our environment and the class will learn about what they do to help our planet. They will learn about the food chain and where bugs fit in.

Language Arts:

Now that we have started getting into a routine, we can really dive into our studies. The students will be working on their writing skills and reading skills daily. We are starting up sight words in September. So, be prepared for them to have a list of words each week that they are learning. Sight words are words that they can read quickly without having to sound it out. Please help them practice those words each week so that they can feel confident in their reading.

Math:

We are off to a good start in math. The students are learning basic skills early in the year, such as number recognition and counting skills. But we will start introducing more adding and number work as the year goes on. To help at home, please work on recognizing at least all of the numbers from 0-20. The more numbers they recognize the easier it will be to write them and work with them in the class.

Back to school!

Welcome to E3! I am so excited to start the school year. I have a lot of fun activities planned. We will do a lot of hands on work along with art. Please note, we will get messy. At the beginning of the year we will do quite a bit of review and learning the rules of the classroom.

nd: NO SCHOOL – Staff In-Service
~August 5th – 9th: Placement Testing
~August 16

Our theme for the month is All About Me! We will learn about everyone’s favorites, their families, the human body and hygiene. This will be a great time to learn about each other and creating bonds in the class.

Language Arts: We will begin the year with reviewing letters and sound and move to a focus letter each week. We will talk about words that start with that letter and the sound of the letter. We will have one worksheet a day along with center time to reinforce learning.

Math: Just like with language arts, we will begin the year with reviewing number recognition and writing. I find that hands on activities help with reinforcing recognition, counting, number order and counting on.

Please note, we do show and tell Friday mornings with free choice. Please do not send any weapons.

***Back to School in August***

Welcome to Ms. Jessica’s E4 class!

I am very excited to meet each new family this year. We are going to be doing a lot of fun things in my class this year. We will be learning not only our academic lessons, but also lessons in kindness, friendship, and of course fun! These first few years of school are so important for your student not only to learn (they soak up so much knowledge), but to also learn the most important lesson and that is to enjoy school. A love of learning will last a lifetime if developed at an early age. I hope to bring joy to each day so that they will love learning and therefore learn so much more.

Important dates:

Aug. 2- No School, Staff In-Service

Aug. 5-9- Placement testing (making sure each child is placed in the class that will help them learn and grow at the right pace)

Aug. 16- Parents Night 6-7pm (if your child is placed in my class, please come to learn more about my classroom and what to expect)

Show and Tell:

Aug. 2- NO SCHOOL

Aug. 9- A Picture of the Student

Aug. 16- A Favorite Stuffed Animal

Aug. 23- A Family Picture

Aug. 30- FREE CHOICE (no weapons)

Theme:

August is ALL ABOUT ME month! We are going to be talking all about your student this month. We will discuss their favorite things, their family, their body, hygiene, etc. This month is all about learning about each other, learning to get along, and forming friendships that will last all year long.

Language Arts:

We are going to start off the school year with a lot of review. Please remember that some students have lost some information over the summer that they learned previously. The first month of school is all about finding out what your student already knows and what we still need to work on. Not every student comes into class at exactly the same level, so review is necessary to try to get everyone a little closer to the same starting point. We will be doing the Learning Without Tears program that our school is receiving a grant for. This is my first year doing this program and I am very excited to get started with it. I am still going to be using a lot of the “tried and true” methods I have learned through the years, but this new curriculum will hopefully fill in some of the learning gaps and help create a fun learning environment.

Math:

Much like language arts, we will start the year off with a lot of review. We will start of with basic math skills, like counting and recognizing our numbers, but will quickly be moving into more difficult concepts, such as addition and subtraction. The students will be playing a lot of math games this year to help with learning the different math concepts.

Please remember that although the school year has begun we will still be playing outside during the day. Please continue applying sunscreen in the mornings and I will reapply after nap for the afternoon. Thank you.

July news

Important dates: July 1st-5th NO SCHOOL

Happy Summer! This summer will be packed with fun activities. We will have splash days on Mondays and Fridays. Please make sure you label your child’s swim stuff. Swim shoes are also a good idea as we will be doing this on the playground. We will also have our weekly themes continue into the summer. These include camping, ice cream, and picnics/food. We will review concepts we have learned throughout the school year to go along with the themes.
